Full Description

The extensive earthwork in the SE corner of the parish at ST 548040 are the site of Daw's Mill. The mill was leased by Ellis Daw in 1657 but appears to have been disused by 1765 as it does not appear on Isaac Taylor's county map.
Surveyed (see illustration card).

The site was partly excavated in 1972, the result suggesting that there was a wooden mill at the head of the tail race with an overshot or breastshot wheel served by a channel 1.0m wide. A large mound protected by cobbling protected the mill house, which was probably a cob cottage, since flattened. The associated pottey was mostly from Donyatt. <1>
