Summary

A claypit in a brickworks close to Longfleet Lodge, Canford Heath, Poole. They are known from historic map evidence. The brickworks were probably in operation between the later 1920s until the Second World War.

Full Description

A brickworks adjacent to Longfleet Lodge is first marked on the Ordnance Survey 25-inch map epoch 4 suggesting that it was started some time after the mid 1920s and before the mid 1930s. It is shown as disused on post-WW2 maps. (1)

The epoch 4 map shows a clay pit in the south west part of the brickworks. (1)

Parts of the brickworks were observed during a watching brief during the construction of the playing fields of Canford Heath Middle School in 1991. (2)

The pit still survives as a pond.
