Full Description
Springhead, Fontmell Magna was formerly known as Higher Mill or Estmill. It is likely to have been one of the three mills recorded in the Domesday survey. In 1665 it was recorded as a fulling mill. By the late 18th century it was run as a corn mill until 1881. It was subsequently usedby the Eclipse Bottle Stopping Machine Company for making Crown bottle tops. After about 1907 it was used as a cheese factory. Springhead became a private residence in 1911.
