Full Description

Hutchins mentions "A cross on four steps under the yew tree" in his description of the parish church. <2>

The village cross stood in the centre of the village and is said to have consisted of a 'broken pillar' standing on four steps, which were about 3 yards square at the base. Near it stood the village stocks and the maypole. About 1866 the cross was taken down. <3>

No trace of the cross was found in the village or in the churchyard. Local enquiry proved negative. <4>
