Full Description

Centred at SY 613841. Three fields, under grass, with Medieval strip lynchets. The most easterly field shows the lynchets in good condition. They are regularly spaced and parallel, some being in a north-south direction, and others in an east-west direction, and average 0.5m high.

The lynchets are in poor condition in the two fields to the west, being faint and difficult to distinguish. The strip lynchets are faintly visible in area SY 613841. (Quinnell 1955)

The earthwork remains of a medieval strip field system are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs (Royal Air Force 1946; Royal Air Force 1948) between the east side of Rodden and Bramdon Lane. The strip lynchets are 15m apart and form part of a wider medieval field system surrounding the hamlet of Rodden. They were digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.
