<1> Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (England), 1975, An Inventory of Historical Monuments in the County of Dorset, Volume V (East), 60 (Monograph). SDO129.
‘(10) Cottage (93700164), now demolished, was two-storyed and had rendered brick walls and a tiled roof; it was of the early 18th century. The N.E. front was symmetrical and of three bays with square-headed three-light casement windows flanking a central doorway, and with corresponding openings in the upper storey. The plan was of class T, but the N.W. room was unheated; this room had stop-chamfered beams.’
<2> Papworth, M, 1994, Shapwick Parish, Kingston Lacy Estate, Wessex Region, 93 (Unpublished document). SDO14228.
A house and barns were located 100m south of the church but have been demolished since 1947. In 1773 (DRO) the buildings are described as house and homestall of John Barrett. In 1993 test trenches were dug prior to the construction of flood protection walls. They revealed a series of deposits dating back to the 12th century.
