Summary

One of nine round barrows that make up the Southover Heath Group. This monument is a bowl barrow and in 1970 was reported as 37 feet in diameter with a mound about 4.5 feet high. The barrow is visible as an earthwork on lidar imagery of 2010.

Full Description

Five tree or fern-covered round barrows on Southover Heath with no traces of ditch and mainly free from mutilation. 'D' - Bowl barrow, 12.0m diameter and 1.4m high. <1>

'D' - (13) - SY 78059284. Bowl barrow, 37ft diameter and 41/2ft high lies in an area of former heathland that has now been cleared. Grinsell refers to this barrow as 12 paces diameter x 4ft high. <2> <4>

'D' SY 78049284, ploughed down; diameter approximately 12.0m., height 0.5m. None of the barrows C - E has a visible ditch. Re-surveyed at 1:2500 on M.S.D. <6>

The barrow is visible as an earthwork on lidar imagery of 2010 <7>. It is sub-circular in shape and measures 10 m in diameter. This feature was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project
