Summary

Fifteenth century farmhouse with coursed dressed stone walls and a thatched roof with gable-end at right hand, and gable at left hand to front. Stone gable-coping at left hand with ball-finial.

Full Description

(ST 42480453) Sandpit Farm (NAT). (1)

Sandpit Farm was built late in the 15th or early in the 16th century, and included a single storeyed hall in the south wing. The upper floor was inserted early in the 17th century when the north cross-wing was added. The house retains a number of 17th century stone-mullioned windows with labels. The original roof is of four bays with trusses of heavy collar-beam type. (2)

The house is now known as 'Old Sandpits' (a), and is as described in Authority 2. The west face retains fine mullioned windows and the interior is heavily beamed. (3)
