Full Description

(ST 45350208) Wantsley Farm (NAT) (1)

Part of the possessions of the Morgans of South Mapperton, from whom it came to the Trenchards. In the year 1642 Thomas Trenchard conveyed it - with the messuage newly erected - to Wm Gollop. (2)

Wantsley Farm is a two-storeyed mid-17th century house of stone with a slated roof. It retains a number of original stone-mullioned windows with labels, and the outer and inner doorways of the
porch have moulded jambs and four-centred arches in square heads.

The barn NW of the house is probably of the same period. (3-4)

Wantsley Farm is a well-preserved farmhouse, as described by Authorities 2 and 3. Only one period of building could be traced, and there are no signs of modernisation apart from the slate roof.

The barn is of stone and has a mullioned window. (5)
