Full Description

In a ground called Fern Down a barrow was opened some little time before 1675, and was found to contain 17 urns.
The site of Fern Down is along the road from Toller Fratrum to Bridport. <1>

The field called FERNDOWN has been subdivided by a NW-SE fence, and the S.W. half is arable. No finds have been made <2.1> [Area centred at: SY 56609695] Both parts of FERNDOWN are at present under grass. The barrow which existed here was not identifiable. Several very slight undulations are visible in the field, but these are probably natural, and so poorly defined as to be unsurveyable. <2>

Present location & classification of urns not determined during field investigation. Perambulation revealed no trace of tumulus. <3>
