‘Clyffe House, Tincleton SY 782922
This icehouse seems to date from the era of the original Clyffe House pulled down prior to 1842 to make way for the present house. ‘Recently’ the dome has been broken open to reveal that it had two brick skins separated by a cavity 5 ins wide. The inner wall is rendered. The entrance tunnel was flat topped, not arched and seemed to have sloped downwards to open into the dome. It was sited under a hedge beside a path into the garden at the rear of some sheds and greenhouses. Believed to have been filled in within the last 10 years.’
