Monument record MDO27245 - Post Medieval Orchard and probable Medieval Ridge and Furrow, Rigg Lane, Trent

Orchard shown on the 1:25-inch scale Ordnance Survey map published in 1903. <1>

LiDAR and satellite imagery illustrate the survival of Ridge and Furrow-like earthworks within this plot, which were also visible in 1947 after the removal of the orchard. The earthworks are aligned with Rigg Lane and although it is possible that they are associated with the later orchard, it is more likely that they represent earlier earthworks not destroyed by ploughing in the later C20. <2-6>
