Summary

Bronze Age bowl barrow. In 1972 this monument was reported as being visible only as a slight rise. It is thought to be a barrow opened by Charles Warne, who found 4 inverted collared urns beneath a cairn, and a number of later cremation burials within the mound. Visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs. The site was digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project. Bowl barrow, now only a slight rise.

Full Description

Bowl barrow (68158578). Now only a slight rise. It probably contained cremations in four inverted Early-Middle Bronze Age collared urns in a cist beneath a cairn. There were two other similar urns, at least one of which was inverted, and two secondary urns. <2> <4>

Ploughing has reduced the barrow to a flat stony patch; in pasture. <5>

Visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs. <8> The site was digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project. Bowl barrow, now only a slight rise.

‘(39) Bowl (?) (68158578) 150 yds. N.E. of (38). Now only a slight rise. It probably contained cremations in four inverted Early-Middle Bronze Age collared urns in a cist beneath a cairn. There were two other similar urns, at least one of which was inverted, and two secondary urns (Abercromby II, figs. 5, 5a, 6c; Ant. J. XIII (1933), 444; P.P.S. XXVII (1961), 294, nos. 17–20).’
