Summary

Bronze Age bell barrow. In 1972 this monument was reported as 65 feet in diameter with a mound about 11 feet high, with berm 8 feet wide and ditch about 15 feet wide and 1 foot deep. Ploughed. Visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs. The site was digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.

Full Description

Grinsell recorded this barrow as 28 paces in diameter and 8 feet in height, and noted traces of a ditch to the east of bell-barrow. <1>

Round Barrows: … 'C' Bell (68028570) 75 yds. E.S.E. 'B'. Diam. 65 ft., ht. 11 ft., with berm 8 ft. wide and ditch about 15 ft. wide and 1 ft. deep. Ploughed. <3>

'C' SY 68038569 Bell barrow, diameter 40.0m overall, height 2.2m. Ditch 5.5m wide and 0.3m deep; berm 3.0m wide. The ditch has been destroyed on the north quadrant. Re-surveyed. at 1:2500 on MSD. See ground photographs. <4>

Visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs <7>. The site was digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.
