8. Palaeolithic findspot (about ST 344045; Fig. 2) Large (21.5cm long) chert hand-axe and flakes found by J. Wymer in 1974. The fresh unabraded axe was found below the screening plant, while the flakes came from spoilheaps within the quarry.
