Summary

Bronze Age disc barrow. Opened by Charles Warne, who found a cremation burial. Visible on aerial photographs as a 16m diameter cropmark ring ditch with internal mound and central pit. Digitally plotted for the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.

Full Description

Two disc barrows <4> or possibly saucer barrows <2> situated about 300 yards north of the Ridgeway.

'A'. Now only an indefinite mound 1 foot high. Identified by RCHM as Warne's No 1, a disc barrow in which he found a primary cremation under an inverted bucket urn covered by a flat stone. (Grinsell lists 'B' as Warne's No. 1, and 'A' as Warne's No. 2). <1> <2> <4>

'A' SY 68078624. A mound of diameter 18.0m. And height 0.5m., with no visible evidence of a ditch. Under pasture (Diagnostic - features, ploughed out). 'A' Re-surveyed at 1:2500 on M.S.D. <5>
