Summary

Pillow mound with traces of a surrounding ditch. The site of the pillow mound is visible as low earthwork mound on aerial photographs taken in 1942. In 1952 this monument was reported as being around 93 feet long, 16½ feet wide, and 1½ feet high.

Full Description

Pillow Mound, near Thorncombe Beacon, with traces of a surrounding ditch. (1) The site of the pillow mound is visible as low earthwork mound (28m by 4m) on aerial photographs taken in 1942 (2). It was digitally plotted during the South West Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).

‘(27) BARROWS, near Thorncombe Beacon … 350 yards E.S.E. of the summit of the beacon is a mound, apparently a "pillow mound", approximately 93 ft. by 16½ ft. and 1½ ft. high with traces of a surrounding ditch.’
