Full Description
The probable site of a WWII battery is visible on aerial photographs above Chesil beach to the south-east of Castle Beach Cottage.{1-2}. The site comprises a large curvilinear enclosure, possibly defined by barbed wire, within which le several military buildings and the sites of at least two emplacements. It is uncertain if this is the site of a gun or search-light battery. The site is situated within the Abbotsbury Defence which was defended by the 6th Battalion Durham Light Infantry and was digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.
