Summary

Disused 19th century lime kiln with associated features on Limekiln Hill. It is rectangular in plan and built of coursed stone.The remains of the quarry supplying the kiln are visible as a depressed area to the North-West. The kiln is visible as a roofless structure on aerial photographs and was digitally plotted for the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Programme. This site is recorded as MDO2283 in the Ridgeway Area Monuments shapefile, but no record with that number was found in the HBSMR.

Full Description

Disused 19th century lime kiln with associated features on Limekiln Hill. It is rectangular in plan and built of coursed stone. The front face is 5m tall and contains a pointed draw arch. The pot is circa 2m in diameter and brick-lined, with a poking hole visible in the base. The remains of the quarry supplying the kiln are visible as a depressed area to the North-West. The kiln is visible as a roofless structure on aerial photographs {1} and was digitally plotted for the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Programme.

This site is recorded as MDO2283 in the Ridgeway Area Monuments shapefile, but no record with that number was found in the HBSMR.
