Full Description

SY 51658922. A dressed limestone block was found in 1967 at Oxclose, Swyre. Further investigation showed a dense scatter of pottery and other evidence of occupation (not specified) over an area of 50 yds square. Most of the sherds were Durotrigian, but Samian and New Forest type wares were also included. A limited excavation showed the Roman level to have been virtually destroyed by the plough. <1>
