SY 643944. In 1961, a Late Bronze Age hoard of bronze axeheads and rings was found in digging a stanchion-pit for a dutch barn, east of
the railway at Grimstone. Three of the axes and two of the rings are at present in the Dorset County Museum; Acc Nos 1963 15.1-3 (palstaves), 1963.4 bronze bracelet and 1963.5 incomplete bronze bracelet. On loan from Wing Comdr F L Newell of South Eggardon (SY 5393), Askerswell. <1>

‘A Late Bronze Age hoard from Grimstone, Stratton.
In 1961 a hoard of bronze axeheads and rings was found in digging a stanchion-pit for a dutch barn E. of the railway at Grimstone (SY 643944). Mr. Peers informs the writer that “three of the axes and two of the rings are at present in the D.C.M.’ 1963.15.1-3 (palstaves) and 1963.4 bronze bracelet (with remains of line engraving) and 1963.5 incomplete bronze bracelet. They came to us on loan from Wing Commander F. L. Newall of South Eggardon, Askerswell”.’
