Full Description

(Centred at SY 65809435) "Lynchets, on a west slope, east and south-east of Newlands Plantation, 1/2m north-east of the church, consist of seven terraces". <1>

A system of Medieval type strip lynchets with varying widths of terraces and in some instances exceptionally strong lynchets. Under grass. See air photo CPE/UK/2431/4134. <2>

Lynchets in flights of four and five, and averaging 1.2 metres high, are as described by Authority (2). They extend for 700 metres along the steep west facing slope of the valley and are centred atSY 657943. <4>

A series of up to eighteen medieval strip lynchets are visible as earthworks and cropmarks on aerial photographs <5-7> on the east side of Stratton Bottom.
