Full Description
A group of pits are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs {1-3}. Some are shown on the 1880 OS map {4} as gravel pits, probably of post-medieval origin. The remainder are considered likely to be of similar date and function. However a natural origin for some of them cannot be ruled out either. They were digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.
