Summary

One of a group of eight bowl barrows recorded on Grimstone Down. In 1952 this monument was reported as 50 feet in diameter with a mound 5 feet high. It has been disturbed in the middle, probably by antiquarian investigation.

Full Description

One of a group of round barrows on Grimstone Down: Barrow 'F' - SY 64609560. A bowl barrow, 50 feet in diameter and 5 feet high, with a disturbed centre. <1>

Barrow 'F' - SY 64609560, one of six grass covered bowl barrows varying from 6.5 to 16 metres in diameter and 0.7 to 2 metres high. <4>

The barrow is as generally described by Authority (4). It is an elongated barrow, measuring 17 metres northeast-southwest and 12.8 metres northwest to southeast, and 1.6 metres high. (See plan and ground photograph). Surveyed at 1:2500, <6>

'(15) BOWL BARROWS, on Grimstone Down, are eight in number. The first (a), 540 yards S.S.W. of Jackman's Cross and 220 yards W. of Grimstone Down Plantation, is 50 ft. in diam. and 5 ft. high; it has been disturbed in the middle.'
