Full Description
Red and white tesserae have been found scattered by the plough in all parts of the field at ST 448017, to the north of the Roman camp on Waddon Hill. At one point the disturbed remains of what may be a flint wall are visible as a slight ridge running north-south. <1>

'Romano-British finds below Waddon Hill, Stoke Abbott. Capt. A. W. J. Cobham of Beaminster reports that in the field (ST 448017) on the north below the Roman military camp on Waddon Hill excavated by Graham Webster in 1959, a number of red and white tesserae have been found scattered by the plough in all parts of the field. No coins or pottery have been found, but at one point what might be the disturbed remains of a flint wall running north-south are visible as a slight ridge. Capt. Cobham also says that when the old quarry on the hill was being worked some years ago, several Roman coins were found by the late farmer of Stoke Knap Farm at the side of the cart track to the quarry, the site being at about the grid ref. 446015. One of the coins seen by Capt. Cobham was of the 1st century.'
