Summary

Earthwork remains of an Iron Age or Roman field system are visible on aerial photographs {1}. The earthworks survive to a maximum height of one metre. The site was digitally plotted for the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.

Full Description

'Celtic' fields, prominent although incomplete in plan, cover some 12 acres around SY 655868, north of Ridge Hill, with lynchets up to 8 feet high. Fragments extend north along the spur top and the valley west of it towards Ashton Cottages (SY 658877). <1>

Remains of Celtic fields are still visible in the area centred at SY 655868, but the lynchets have been considerably ploughed-down
in recent years, to a maximum height of 1.0m. Most of the area is under arable. <2>
