Full Description
'Celtic' fields, prominent although incomplete in plan, cover some 12 acres around SY 655868, north of Ridge Hill, with lynchets up to 8 feet high. Fragments extend north along the spur top and the valley west of it towards Ashton Cottages (SY 658877). <1>
Remains of Celtic fields are still visible in the area centred at SY 655868, but the lynchets have been considerably ploughed-down
in recent years, to a maximum height of 1.0m. Most of the area is under arable. <2>
Earthwork remains of an Iron Age or Roman field system are visible on aerial photographs <3>. The earthworks survive to a maximum height of one metre (RCHM). The site was digitally plotted for the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.
