A group of pits are visible as earthworks and cropmarks on aerial photographs. Some are shown on the 1880 OS map as chalk pits, probably of a post medieval origin.

Full Description

A group of pits are visible as earthworks and cropmarks on aerial photographs {1-2}. Some are shown on the 1880 OS map {3} as chalk pits and are considered likely to be of post medieval origin. The remainder are probably of a similar origin, although they could also be natural shake holes. They were digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.
