Full Description
A large group of post medieval extractive pits are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs {1-4}. Many of them are marked on the 1880 OS map as either chalk or gravel pits. The remainder are likely to have a similar origin, although could also be natural shake holes. They were digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.
