Full Description

(Centred SY 405921). Four mounds on Golden Cap, probably the remains of bowl barrows, in a group at the SW 3nd of the hill-top. (2)

Bowl barrows on Golden Cap are as follows:

SY 40589214 (A). 8 paces dia by 2 ft high
SY 40589211 (B). 11 paces dia by 2 ft high
SY 40569209 ©. 13 paces dia by 2 1/2ft high
SY 40549207 (D). 12 paces dia by 2 1/2ft high (3)

One of five Bronze Age earthworks on Golden Cap. This one in particular is 34 ft in diameter and 2.5 ft high. (1)

Excavated 1992. Mound consisted of large blocks of chert, 16m by 1.2m high. Finely worked flint tool was only prehistoric object found. Mound had been adapted to form a Napoleonic signal station in use from 1798 to 1814.
