Lindsey Archaeological Services conducted an archaeological desk based assessment of land at South Street/ Ludbourne Road, Sherborne during 1997 in advance of re-development of the site as Sainsbury’s Supermarket.

A malthouse is marked opposite the silk factory at the south end of South Street on the OS 1st edition 1:500 map of Sherborne, dated 1886 and is also marked on the revised 2nd edition 25" map of 1903 [2].
