Summary

Evidence for conjoined pits containing fired clay debris and brick fragments was revealed during excavations in advance of the development of Stour park retail park during 1993. The pits are interpreted as clay pits for brick making materials, and of 18th-century date. The field has been known as 'Brickfield' locally.

Evidence for conjoined pits containing fired clay debris and brick fragments was revealed during excavations in advance of the development of Stour park retail park during 1993. The pits are interpreted as clay pits for the extraction of the raw materials for brick making. The field had been known locally as brickfield. [1]
