Full Description

A white rectangular outline was observed on the machined surface after reduction of ground levels. This was a pit-like feature lined with a single layer of rough hewn limestone flagstones 40mm thick, on top of which was a brilliant white, soft, extremely fine paste, which also lined the sides of the pit. The feature had been filled with nineteenth-century rubble. It was interpreted as a lime slaking pit, perhaps associated with the construction of a building on nearby West Borough.
