Full Description

SY 551888. Probable remains of a deserted medieval hamlet covering almost 25 acres lie in a small re-entrant valley east of Look Farm. There are at least 6 parallel scraps 20-25 yds apart spanning the valley and there appear to be sub-divisions to what might otherwise be strip fields. The remains are under deep grass and scrub. (See sketch plans). <1>

The probable remains of a deserted Medieval hamlet are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs to the east of Look Farm <2-4>. The site comprises a system of strip fields and associated field boundaries and enclosures, it was digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.

'Medieval field remains survive in fragments in several parts of the parish: … b. At Look Farm (551888) in a small re-entrant valley there are at least 6 parallel scarps 20-25 yds. apart spanning the valley. There appear to be sub-divisions to what might otherwise be strip fields. They are all under deep grass and scrub, but the remains are probably of a medieval hamlet, covering almost 25 acres.'
