Full Description

Lynchets, 1/2 mile E. of the church, are on a N. slope with regular terraces 9 to 10 yds wide with a fall of 5 to 10 ft. <1>

A: Centred at SY 53919242; B: Centred at SY 54389251, A: An area of pronounced grass covered Md strip lynchets, from 0.5m to 2.0m high, regulrly spaced, as described in T.I. B: Poorly defined and scattered strip lynchets which appear to make use of natural scarps in many instances the terraces being laid out between these scarps. The areas are well shown on AP CPE/UK/2431/3154. <2>

‘(21) LYNCHETS, ½ m. E. of the church, extend for 500 to 600 ft. on the N. slope of the hill. The terraces, where regular, are 9 to 10 yards in width with a fall of 5 to 10 ft.'

'...At 500 to 600 ft. above the Greensand and below the hillfort (540943) there are remains of strip lynchets; five extend for about a furlong with treads 20 to 100yds. wide and risers up to 10ft. high; there are other fragments in the vicinity which were part of the Manor's open field.'
