Full Description

Fragments of a field system are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs on the north and north-east facing slopes of Askerwell Down. The bank and ditched features are possibly of prehistoric date although a later medieval origin cannot be ruled out. <1-4>

The earthwork remains of a probable later prehistoric or Roman field system located to the north of the Dorchester Road, centred at c.SY 5450 9195409 which is visible on aerial photographs taken in 2016 as part of the Historic England Reconnaissance Recording Programme. Further remains can be seen to the south-west (NRHE 451496) along with traces of cross dykes NRHE 451479. <5>
