Full Description

(Area centred ST 65062122) 'Late shadows shown. Possibly a number of ploughed out barrows along top of hill, 1951'. <1>

The area indicated falls partly on a ridge top and partly on the upper western slopes. Vaguely circular crop-marks of a fungus ring type were observed but no indication of ploughed out barrows. The area is under grass and does not appear to have been ploughed for many years. <2>

Air photograph inspection gave no further information. Vague circular and near circular dark soil marks as described by Authy 2 ran the whole length of the ridge. No surface features indicative of barrow sites were noted. Large patches of nettles may account for the markings visible on Aps. <3>
