Monument record MDO21792 - Lime kiln near Friar Waddon Hill,

Please read our .

Summary

A lime kiln recorded as ‘limekiln’ on the 1901 Ordnance Survey map and ‘old limekiln’ on the second edition (1900-2) and 1927 revision of the Ordnance Survey map. The date of the kiln is not known but it is not shown on the 1860 tithe map, and so is most likely to date from later in the nineteenth century. This kiln was visited by Peter Stanier in 1992-93, and he noted that very little (1-19%) of the structure survived; what remained was in bad condition and it was not possible to determine what type of kiln construction this was.
