Full Description

Parallel linear features are visible on aerial photographs as earthworks overlying an Iron Age/Romano-British field system described in MDO21661. These features are considered likely to be cultivation marks of broad medieval ridge-and-furrow. {1}

This broad ridge-and-furrow on the downland probably represents a temporary or sporadic extension of cultivation beyond the limits of the permanent arable in the medieval period or, possibly, later. Modern ploughing is completing the work of destruction throughout the whole group. {2}
