Full Description
A lime kiln recorded as ‘limekiln’ on the tithe map (1837) and the first edition (1886-9) Ordnance Survey map, and as ‘old limekiln’ on the second edition (1900-2) Ordnance Survey map. The date of this kiln is not known but it is most likely to be late nineteenth century. The site was visited in 1992-93 by Peter Stanier, who recorded that very little (1-19%) of the kiln structure survived in bad condition. It was not possible to determine what type of kiln construction this was.
The site of the kiln is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs {1} and was digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.
This record duplicates that of MDO1333.
