Full Description

Area centred at SY 745843. Strip lynchets. <2>

Three lynchets, each approximately 2.0m. high. Two set in a north west to south east direction, run across the contour rather than with it. The third running north east to south west follows the natural contour. All lie within a pasture field. <3>

Around SY 744843 in the former East Field, are strip lynchets of up-and-down type, butting against contour type. More up-and-down type lynchets and traces are shown further south (SY 745842) and (SY 746839) on the Medieval field plan (see attached). <5>

This strip field system has been subjected to annual ploughing and the only remains worth of note are the three lynchets centred at
SY 74528430 but even these are reduced to rounded scarps. Depiction on 1:2500 MSD correct. Area outlined on 1:10560 Record Sheet. <6>

A series of medieval strip field boundaries are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs to the north-east of Poxwell <1> <>. The site was digitally plotted during the South Dorset Ridgeway Mapping Project.
