Full Description

Field Systems. Taken from Air photo's in Jany-March 1949 by R.J.C. Atkinson. <1>

[Centred at SY 58059286] An area of field banks and lynchets forming irregular fields of IA/RB type. The lynchets average 5.0m. wide and 0.7m high, and the field banks 5.0m. wide and 0.3m. high. The system is pronounced but under the plough in area "A"; elsewhere it is grass covered. <2>

[Area Centred at SY58109315] A small area of lynchets of 1A/RB type, partly grass covered partly plough. <3>

A rectilinear bank and ditched field system is visible as low earthworks and cropmarks on aerial photographs to the south of the Roman road on Eggerton Ridge. It lies immediately to the east and south-east of the univallate enclosure described in record MDO1541. It is of uncertain origin, possibly of Iron Age, Roman or medieval date. <4-8>
