Full Description

[Area centred at SY58659560] Celtic field system, on the W slope of the hut 600 yds SE of the church, extending for approximately 1/2 mile. <1>

Centred at SY 585950. An extensive IA.RB type field system, exceeding 1 1/2 miles from N to S, but little over 1/4 mile wide. The area is almost completely under pasture, and the field banks and lynchets genrally pronounced throughout. See AP/CPE/UK/2475/3175. Centred at SY 585945. 'A'. In this area are a number of Md strip lynchets, pronounced and under grass. <2>

Field system of probable Iron Age or Roman origin, visible as earthworks on aerial photographs. The system has been overlain to the south by the medieval field system described in MDO3467. <3-5> The northern continuation of the field system was recorded from lidar imagery during the Upper Frome and Sydling Valley AIM project <6>.
