Summary

Earthworks of Medieval field system comprising strip lynchets identified on the slopes of Pitcher's Hill. The lynchets centred at SY 50459610 are situated on a hillside falling to the north, are short, parallel and grass-covered. The lynchets centred at SY 50259575 are pronounced and comprise both short and long earthworks, running approximately parallel on a hillside falling to the west.

Full Description

Field system plotted from air photographs. <1>

Lynchets, immediately S. of W. MILTON village on N, slopes of PITCHER'S HILL. The terraces are from 9 to 12 yards wide and extend for about 450 yards. <2>

Area A [Centred at SY 50459610] Area B [Centred at SY 50259575] Area A - mainly short and parallel grass covered strip lynchets. Fairly pronounced and situated on a hillside falling to the North.

Area B - A few long and several short approximately parallel strip lynchets on a hillside falling to the west. Pronounced and under grass. See AP CPE/UK/2475/3163. <3>
