‘The following monuments, unless otherwise described, are of the 17th century and of two storeys; the walls are of rubble and the roofs are covered with thatch or modern materials. Some of the buildings have exposed ceiling-beams and original fireplaces…. (8) Cottage, on the E. side of Abbey Street 40 yards N. of the church, is of flint-rubble and timber-framing. It was built perhaps late in the 16th century and the upper storey projects in front. Inside the building is a stone fireplace with an elliptical head.’
