Summary

House refronted in early eighteenth century on an earlier core. Brick walls, on an ashlar stone plinth with a heavy wooden dentil cornice, walls painted pink. Slate roofs, with stone gable-coping at south end and a rebuilt stack at north end. Porch carried on Roman Doric stone columns, carved with raised shell and mask. Formerly The Bull Inn, The Old House has also been called The Inn.

‘The following monuments, unless otherwise described, are of the 17th century and of two storeys; the walls are of rubble and the roofs are covered with thatch or modern materials. Some of the buildings have exposed ceiling-beams and original fireplaces.
(6) House, immediately S. of (5), is of stone and brick. It was refronted early in the 18th century and has a brick band between the storeys and a modillioned eaves-cornice; the doorway has a large shell-hood resting on two columns. Reset in the back wing is a stone corbel with a human figure. Inside the building, one room is lined with early 18th-century bolection-moulded panelling and there is a fireplace and over mantel of similar character on the first floor. There is also some later 18th-century panelling and a staircase of the same period. In a garden-wall is an early 16th-century moulded bressummer with the initials T.I.G.’
