Summary

Gravel diggers discovered a roman urn inside four great slabs of stone during gravel extraction at Gomershay, Stalbridge around 1869. The urn contained more than 1,000 coins in all, at least 300 of which were in excellent condition and though to date from the age of Constantine. A roman quern or hand mill was also found in the same place.

Gravel diggers discovered a roman urn inside four great slabs of stone during gravel extraction at Gomershay, Stalbridge circa 1869. The urn contained more than 1000 coins in all, at least 300 of which were in excellent condition and though to date from the age of Constantine. A roman quern or hand mill was also found in the same place.
