Full Description
Part of a rectangular enclosure of Romano-British date is visible as a soilmark in aerial photographs taken of Mount Pleasant henge monument (MDO2890) during excavation of the site by Geoffrey Wainwright (1970-71) {1}. Excavations revealed a Romano-British enclosure overlying the circular post-hole structure and surrounding ditch (site IV) located within the south-west interior of the henge. The enclosure was represented as a gully (45cm wide and 7-8cm deep) which surrounded a rectangular area 12m wide from west to east and of unknown length, with a single entrance gap 1.5m wide in its south-eastern corner. The gully cuts across the outer ditch of the post-hole feature and is located to the north-west of its northern entrance. Finds dated the gully to the fourth century AD. {2}
