Full Description

In or about 1662 arose a serious dispute between the Lord Admiral and Sir John Strangways, resulting in an unfinished lawsuit in the Court of Admiralty. Some time before this dispute, “a French shipp laden with lin-cloth knitt waistcoats and such like French commodities” was driven ashore near “Bexinton Farme” and Sir John’s tenants claimed the salvage rights. The Vice Admiral or his deputy by their employees charged Sir John’s party “that they should not intrench upon the jurisdiction of the Lord Admirall.”
