Summary

A late 19th century Isolation Hospital set in fairly large grounds is shown on the 1902 Ordnance Survey map, to the west of North Allington. The hospital was built in 1898 with a ward block, service block and caretakers cottage. A number of buildings were added during the first half of the 20th century, including a cubicle block of 1944-46 by architect Harold Cooper. The hospital was demolished in the early 1990s, in order to construct the present Bridport Community Hospital.

Full Description

An Isolation Hospital set in fairly large grounds is shown on the 1902 Ordnance Survey map (1).

It comprises a main building, a small ancillary building behind and a house near the entrance. By 1929, further buildings have been constructed in the grounds (2).

The same arrangement of buildings is shown on the 1961 Ordnance Survey map and the hospital is marked as 'North Allington Hospital (chest)' (3).

The hospital was demolished in the early 1990s, in order to construct the present Bridport Community Hospital.
