Steamship, Captain W. G. M. Christian, cargo tea & jute, torpedoed by UB 58, 22 miles south of Portland, 22 December 1917.

Full Description

Torpedoed on the starboard side at 11.30 a m by UB 58. Only the periscope of the submarine had been sighted. The master ordered the stern gun to be fired to warn other ships that she had been attacked, which brought out a tug to assist. The crew then abandoned the vessel at 1 p m the tug waiting for other vessels to assist with the tow. A second torpedo then hit the ship in the engine room and she sank shortly after. (1)
